Stage 11: A Brother's oath

"How many times do I have to go through this?" Roberto thought to himself as he stared at Ricardo's casket being escorted into the plane. His friends who were all dressed in black. Roberto was wore a black tuxedo, a black scarf hanging from his shoulders and a black fedora. Gina was there standing across with Tito in her arms and with a priest standing next to her. The workers who were escorting Ricardo's casket stopped in front of everyone. The priest pulled out his bible and a vile of olive oil. "We all stand here today to say farewell to Ricardo Garcia. Ricardo was not only a servant of God, but he was also a family man; who loved his family wholeheartedly," as the priest continued, Tito began to cry. "It's okay little one. Your father is in heaven giving praise to our Lord." Gina said comforting Tito. "Even Tito mourns for the loss of his father." said Paula. Roberto looked at him and replied "We are not the only ones in mourning." as he referred to Shirley: who lost her father in Narita.

"Would anyone like to say anything before we send his body to be buried in his resting spot?" said the priest. Roberto walked up and laid his hand on top of the casket. "Brother, what I will say will be my oath to you. That I will not take revenge, but I will do everything I can so that nobody else will have to suffer the loss the pain that your family has to suffer. I will look after your son while you are gone." he said. He took his and off and watched his brother’s casket went inside the cargo bay. "Roberto your father and your mother are getting concerned about you." said Gina. "Tell them that they do not have to worry; I'll be fine." Roberto answered and he walked away. "C'mon muchachos. We have to go be with Shirley now.” said Roberto.

On their way to Joseph Fenette burial, everyone was quiet. Today has been a sorrowful day for everyone: not only did Roberto lose his brother, but three members of his Brotherhood were killed while spying on the JLF. "This never gets easy. This must be a record. Seeing four people getting put in a coffin and now we are going to see the fifth one." Roberto breaking the silence. "We lost friends and loved ones during the Second Holy War, it never was easy." said Rojas. "But now we are fighting a crusade to end terror, but now our families are in the line of fire," Roberto replied, "I lost a wife, an infant brother, and now my older brother." Carlos thought of the next course of action. "So what now? We go to war with the Black Knights?" he asked. "We may have to. Zero took the lives of a handful of civilians, but I must be careful on why." answered Roberto. Ernesto looked at him and said. "Why indeed. You cannot let your thirst for revenge consume you." Hearing those words Roberto nodded his head in agreement.

They made it to the burial of Joseph Fenette: Shirley's father. The Student Council where there to aid Shirley as well. As he walked towards the burial; Roberto was approached by Milly. She hugged him out of remorse for his loss. Roberto embraced her. "How is Shirley feeling?" he asked. "I'm not for sure." Milly answered. "NO PLEASE DON'T!" Hearing those words, everyone turned their attention to the wife of the decedent. "Don't bury him again. Please he's suffered enough. Oh God don't leave Me." she sobbed. Shirley tried to comfort her mother. Roberto and the others looked on and felt sorrowful for her family. "I always disliked this part." said Roberto.

Everyone soon started to depart: except Shirley, the student council and Roberto. Shirley knelt on her father’s grave; staring at his tombstone. Roberto walked towards her, seeing that she was still saddened with the death of her father. He laid his hand on her shoulder knowing that they both share each other’s pain. Shirley looked at him, seeing him cry over her loss as well. "Shirley if there is anything I can do please let me know." He said out of remorse. Shirley stood up on her feet and kissed Roberto on his cheek. Roberto stood still, but he was concerned for her wellbeing. She cracked a fake smile and said to him "You're so sweet Roberto. I'll be fine." and walked towards her friends. He looked on at her.

It was raining outside. Roberto was in his trailer, laying on his bed, staring aimlessly at the ceiling. All he was doing was listening to the raindrops pound on his roof. He wondered about what was he going to do or what will happen next. He sat up and looked at the end. His phone rang and he answered. "Roberto," it was Paula, "We just got word that remnants of the Japan Liberation Front are in a Cargo ship. Cornelia is setting up an ambush." Roberto was getting annoyed. "Why the heck should I care. Let the JLF be itching powder in her bra." he said. "But the Black Knights might be there homes. Think about it." said Paula. He then closed his phone and pondered about it. "KNOCKKNOCKKNOCK" "The door is unlocked, you can come in Milly." said Roberto. Milly entered inside, seeing Roberto still lying on his bed. She knew that the day has been hard for him. "Roberto you haven't come to class at all today. I was really worried about you." said Milly. "I just had a lot of things on my mind that’s all." Roberto replied.

Milly was sympathizing with him, she sat next to him. "Is it about your brother?" she asked and she put her arm around his shoulders. Roberto felt her hand and looked at her; sorrowfully. "There was no justice in killing my brother. What did Zero have against him that will be enough to bury him alive?" he said. Milly shook her head and said "I don't know why." but it wasn't a good enough answer to Roberto. Looking at his facial expression; Milly became worried. "Roberto you're not planning to go on a one-man war against the Black Knights are you?" she asked. He then looked at her intently. "Zero not only killed my brother or Shirley's father, but a handful a civilians. He has to be stopped." Roberto argued. Milly became frustrated from his response. "So that gives you the right to go for revenge?" "This is not about vengeance." but Roberto did have a small thirst for Black Knight blood. Milly stood up and walked out. "You do what you think is right, but just remember this; dig two graves." she said. When Roberto was alone again; he pulled out a duffle bag from under his bed.

Roberto made it to where Cornelia has commenced her operations: at a shipyard. Roberto was hiding on top of a building nearby, wearing all black military uniform. He laid flat on his belly with a sniper rifle in his hands. He looked through the scope for his targets as they were. He saw the Black knights and their Burui's fighting the Britannians and their Sutherlands. "I might have to use the Perez for this." he said to himself. He then saw the Lancelot giving Zero's Burui the final blow before he ejected. "Guess I'm going to have to go there." he said. As he was rising up; Guilford mistaking him as a member of the Black Knights, landed his Gloucester in front of him. Roberto was not intimidated and he stared at his Gloucester. "Time to die You Ver-" Guilford stopped his sentence after he recognizes him. "It's-its you." he said. "Hola Guilford, how is life been treating ya?" Roberto asked.

Soon the whole battle was over. Zero escaped along with the Black Knights. Roberto even though he is not a prisoner, but was being held by General Darlton and Guilford. Cornelia was asking him questions. "I see, now I get it Roberto," said Cornelia, "I'm terribly sorry for your loss." Roberto looked away from her and saw Britannian medical personal caring their dead comrades. "You know during the whole fighting, I couldn't bring myself to kill any of the Black Knights," he said and looked at Cornelia. "I wanted revenge for my brother, but it would make me into a murderer if I had killed anyone." Cornelia said nothing, but smiled at his response. "My lady should we take him with us." asked Darlton "No let him go," Cornelia ordered and she looked back at Roberto, "Consider this a debt repaid." she said. Roberto nodded his head. Roberto then took out a folded piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to Cornelia. "It's from Angel. He wants to see his mom." said Roberto and he walked away. Cornelia glanced at the paper and saw writing that was made by a two year old. Just as he was departing Cornelia called out to him. "Roberto waits," She said. He stopped after hearing her. "Tell me about my little boy" She asked. Roberto looked at her and saw how sincere she was. "You little boy is doing fine Cornelia. My aunt is taking the best of care for him." he answered. "Please if you see angel again, tell him that mommy is sorry... for not being there." Cornelia felt remorseful. Seeing that she was sincere of her words, Roberto smiled and gave her a thumb up.

Returning to the trailer park, Roberto went to Rojas' trailer and knocked on his door. Rojas opened it and greeted Roberto. "Listen tell the guys we must meet up at HQ to discuss whether or not we should go after the Black Knights and to figure on our motives." he said. Rojas looked into his eyes and saw he had a revelation. "We'll discuss this when the time is right." said Rojas. "Deal." was Roberto's response and he walked to his trailer. Opening his door and having so many things on his mind; he collapsed on his bed and stared at the ceiling again. Minutes went by and Roberto pulled out his cellphone.

Milly was in her room, brushing her hair. She was worried about Roberto, she only hoped that Roberto didn't go on his revenge mission. She continued to brush her hair until her phone rang. She looked at it and said "Please let that be Roberto." Her phones caller I.D said his name and she was relieved. "Roberto." she answered. At first she heard nothing on the other end. "Milly, you was right," said Roberto, "I wanted blood for my brother, but nearly lost myself." Milly was so glad to hear from him. "I'm proud of you Roberto." She said, "But promise me you will never have you revenge." Roberto couldn't bring himself to make that promise, but he wanted Milly to feel at ease. "I cannot make that promise Milly, but I won't embark for blood. I'll do this for you and for Ricardo." he said to her. Milly was satisfied with that answer and she hanged up her phone.

sorry for the lateness.
